ReD Ognita

  • Client: ReD Ognita
  • Location: Beijing, China
  • Completed: August 2011
  • Scope: Facebook Page, WordPress

ReD Ognita is a Filipino fine-art photographer based in Beijing who specializes in minimalist black and white photography. I helped him convert his static portfolio website to a WordPress backend and merged it with a blog that was hosted in a separate WP installation.

Custom WordPress Theme

The client required that we stick to the original minimalist design. Using Whiteboard framework as base, I took the original static website html, rewrote the code using css layout and created a customized WordPress theme with a photo gallery section.

I used custom-post type to group the galleries together in the admin backend and to separate them from the blog posts.

ReD requested that I stay clear of jquery lightboxes in building the gallery and to keep the photos on separate pages. I realized that the feature requests are simple enough to be managed by WordPress’ built-in features, so I simply integrated the website’s original design around built-in WordPress codes and the media tools (upload tool, media gallery and image attachment page) with further enhancement by building custom templates and styles around them.

I also integrated cufon to meet ReD’s request that fonts “look nice” in menus and headings but still editable, without resorting to an image editing software to type the texts.

Finally, the client wanted to be able to edit the favicon and logos. To manage this, I added a custom theme options page in the admin where he can upload the image files to replace the ones seen in the frontend.

Custom Facebook Page

I created a custom Facebook Page with content that can be edited with the WordPress site.
